DESCRIPTION: This Research Studio approaches its mandate to create and cultivate a cosmological brain. We ask: what are the sociopolitical genetics, the pedagogies of the general economy, and the environmental controls necessary to build a cosmopolitically inclined brain? What are the infrastructural captures of attention currently in operation on our planet which might lead towards or away from a general cosmopolitical agency with a mind?
We begin by temporarily distinguishing and isolating technical and conceptual parts of the ‘thinking entity’ to inquire into novel ways to design these sub-structures and bring them together in a renewed framework of assembly. The studio will explore and work with different aspects of planetary and universally scaled cognitive architectures and the systems through which potential General Intellects might operate- biological artefacts functioning across billions of years; cultural infrastructures; linkages of feelings from the viral scale to general principles of feedback and self-regulation and awareness; the necessary pathways for material, energetic, and information systems to interact across myriad timescales to yield a spectrum that can be called ‘mind.’
