The Draw of the Desert
Instructor: Reza Negarestani Date & Time: January 26th, February 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, March 1st, March 8th, March 15th 10:30 - 13:00 ET

DESCRIPTION: Nearly fifteen years after the publication of Cyclonopedia, twenty-one years after the English translation of Ibrahim al-Kuni’s Anubis: A Desert Novel, and fifty-eight years since the arrival of Frank Herbert’s Dune, this Seminar brings the logic of the desert in all its political, economic, technological, military and mystical mirages to the doorsteps of philosophy. Beginning with the rise of monotheism, moving towards esoteric tales of political strife by prophets, philosophers, travelers, soldiers, CIA agents and oil tycoons, we will embark on a journey where the idea of the desert coincides with the strongest ambitions of the humankind—failed or otherwise. This Seminar is designed to provide a set of armamentariums through which philosophers can be initiated to that Mundus Imaginalis we call the limit upon all thoughts, cunnings and discourses by those who still live on the planet earth.
