Towards a Panoptic View of Art History

DESCRIPTION Through exclusion and compression, art history contributes to the creation of mythically charged objects of art. Art history has often been regarded as a given, a discipline that defines how we interpret art in the present. This seminar will attempt to find a new purpose for Art History in our contemporary moment marked by the technological flattening of all temporalities into that of the virtual present. Moderated by João Enxuto, this seminar will feature seven art historians who have made a major contribution to their field in the last five years. It will concentrate on their specific methodologies as a way to rethink the production of art history and historiography for the future.
